Congratulations on Your New Swimming Pool!

here is our process

Thank you for choosing Mid Penn Electric to wire your new swimming pool from Valley Pools. Since most people don’t know what to expect when having a swimming pool installed, much less what to expect from the electrician, we wanted to make sure that you have as much information as possible.

There are two stages to the wiring of every above ground swimming pool: Installation and Final Electrical Inspection.

The Installation stage is where we install the conduit from your electrical panel to the spot in your yard where the filter pad will eventually be installed. This conduit is used to protect the wiring that will be supplying electricity to your pool equipment. We will determine the best path from the electrical panel to the filter pad and install the conduit. This involves installing conduit inside the house from the electrical panel to the point where the conduit will exit the house. From this point to the filter pad, the conduit will be installed underground, unless your filter pad is located against your house. In order to install the underground conduit, we will bring a trenching machine to dig an 18” deep trench in which to bury the conduit. The conduit will then be installed in the trench. Depending on what township you live in, the trench might be inspected by a third-party inspector at this point. Once the conduit is in place and any necessary inspections are completed the trench will be backfilled. Next, we install the equipment post. This post is located at the filter pad and on it are the pump disconnect outlet, a switch for the pool light, a convenience receptacle, the pool timer and any necessary transformers. We will also wire all the equipment at the filter pad including the pump, heater and light.

We will need access to the portion of your house where your electrical panel is located which is usually in your garage or basement. We will do our best to keep you up to date about which day we will be there. Unfortunately, the schedule can change frequently. The swimming pool schedule is greatly affected by weather. Since we need to do our work during a certain stage of the pool building process, bad weather, even weeks before we are scheduled to wire your pool, can slow down excavation, shell installation, etc. This might affect the date for the electrical Installation.

Finally, there will be a Final Electrical Inspection which will be performed by a third-party inspector. More than likely, the inspector will also need to have access to your electrical panel.

You will also see someone from each of the utilities a few days before Installation. They are there to mark the underground utilities so that we don’t hit them with the trenching machine.

Hopefully this information is helpful. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call or send us a message. We are here to serve you. We realize that a project of this size can be a bit overwhelming and we want to make this process as smooth as possible for you.
